 Welcome.................

The ride2give team are a bunch of cyclists whose aim is to raise money each year for worthwhile causes.

We decided to put our annual mileage to good use and formed a small team to undertake the LEJOG in June 2008; raising over £12,000 for our chosen charities. This year we have joined forces with other like minded friends and colleagues from all over the world to undertake our next challenge, Sydney to Melbourne across the Australian Alps.

Well, finally we have finished the ride and have achieved something that will stay with us all our lives. Read about our journey, the laughs, the pain and the  tears!...Just click on the button below

The Next Challenge

So what are we up to? In May 2010 we intend to cycle 1,270 km in 9 days from Sydney to Melbourne the hard way across the Australian Alps in aid of our chosen charities.

As you can imagine we have a lot to plan and do before we undertake this mammoth task in May 2010. The UK team members intend to fly to Australia in early May. On arrival they will meet up with the Australian team to finalise those last minute arrangements whilst trying to acclimatise to the heat and overcome the dreaded jet lag. Within 3 days of their arrival the team will be off, cycling south through the Australian Alps to our final destination in Melbourne.

The route we plan to take is the Raid Aurora, an epic route linking Australia's two biggest cities and passing through the nation’s capital. It passes through a variety of landscapes including remote alpine, coastal, farming and national parks. This journey is challenging in both the mountainous terrain it covers and its duration, which requires us to cover a avaerage of 141km per day for 9 days without a rest day or 88 miles in old money.

As this journey passes through high alpine country, it is essential that we are prepared for all types of weather conditions, from extreme heat to extreme cold. Temperatures along some parts of this route can exceed 40 degrees centigrade during summer. Distances between services along this route, particularly in the alpine region between Cooma and Corryong, can be great and therefore we have elected to have a support vehicle travel with us.

IT WOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF:

So why do we need everyone's support? Well first and foremost we need to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charities.

Transplant Link.................. This UK based charity specialises in kidney transplants in third world countries, utilising their expertise to not only undertake the transplants but to train the local doctors in the procedures.  Our aim is to raise enough money to try and fund the teams' next visits to a third world country.
